Georgia Football to Give Key Players a Break Against Kent State

Savannah, Georgia –

The Georgia Bulldogs will give some of their key players a rest this Tuesday morning when they host Kent State at Sanford Stadium. Kirby Smart announced on Monday that quarterback Stetson Bennett, running back Kenny McIntosh, and wide receiver Ladd McConkey will all sit out the game. Smart said that the decision was made to give the players a chance to rest and recover before the team’s SEC opener against South Carolina on September 17.

“These guys have played a lot of football for us, and we just want to make sure they’re fresh and healthy for the rest of the season,” Smart said. “We have a lot of depth on this team, and we’re confident that the guys who will be playing on Tuesday will be ready to step up and make plays.”

With Bennett out, Carson Beck will get the start at quarterback. Beck, a redshirt sophomore, has appeared in four games for the Bulldogs, completing 10 of 15 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. McIntosh will be replaced by Daijun Edwards, who has rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns this season. McConkey will be replaced by Arian Smith, who has caught 10 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia is a 44.5-point favorite over Kent State, which is 1-2 on the season. The Bulldogs are looking to improve to 3-0 before their SEC opener against South Carolina.
