Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was born on June 24, 1962, in Mexico City, Mexico. She is a Mexican politician and environmental engineer who is the President-elect of Mexico. She is a member of the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) party and was part of the Juntos Haremos Historia coalition in the 2018 presidential election.
Sheinbaum's Personal Background
Sheinbaum was born to a secular Jewish family in Mexico City. Her paternal Ashkenazi grandparents emigrated from Lithuania to Mexico. Sheinbaum is married and has a daughter.
Political Career
Sheinbaum began her political career in the 1980s, working for the Mexican Communist Party. She later joined the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and served in the Chamber of Deputies from 2006 to 2012. In 2018, she was elected Mayor of Mexico City, becoming the first woman to hold the position.
